In Quebec, the provincial government is boosting financial assistance for newcomers attending full-time and part-time French-language courses. In a release, Quebec’s Ministere de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Integration (MIFI), announced that it is raising the weekly benefit for those taking a full-time French course to $205. That is only $5 more than the previous $200 assistance per week. The weekly stipend for these full-time students has risen by just 2.5 percent this year, which is far less than the current rate of inflation, which is at 7.7%. Last year, the provincial government increased the financial assistance from $188 per week to 200.
