Despite several statements made by the Immigration Minister, Sean Fraser, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) could not deal with the large numbers of immigration applications. The immigration backlog covers all applications submitted to IRCC, from citizenship to visas to permanent residency requests. The file of citizenship applications alone is 444,792 long, with the majority of the list (1.7 million) being for temporary residence status. In total, there are 2.7 million people waiting for IRCC to process their immigration applications. The backlog has doubled since the last year and no feasible solutions were introduced by IRCC so far.
