Manitoba draw brings 180 applicants one step closer to permanent residence

Among those invited to apply were skilled workers, international student graduates and Express Entry candidates

Manitoba’s invited 180 skilled workers, international student graduates and Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence in a new draw held November 7.

The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) periodically invites candidates from its Skilled Worker in Manitoba, Skilled Worker Overseas and International Education immigration pathways to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence.

Invitations through the Skilled Worker in Manitoba and Skilled Worker Overseas are based on an Expression of Interest (EOI) score.

Individuals who would like to be considered for immigration to Manitoba under one of these categories must first create an EOI profile, which is then entered into a pool of eligible candidates.

Profiles are ranked based on a score out of 1,000 that reflects the candidate’s education, work experience, connections to Manitoba and proficiency in English or French, among other factors.

A set number of the highest-scoring candidates receive a Letter of Advice to Apply (LAA) from the MPNP and may then submit their application for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence.

The November 7 draw issued 180 LAAs as follows:

  • Skilled Worker in Manitoba: 133
  • Skilled Worker Overseas: 24
  • International Education Stream: 23

Express Entry candidates who were invited in this round and who receive a provincial nomination will receive an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points and are effectively guaranteed an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence in a subsequent federal Express Entry draw.

To be considered for a provincial nomination from Manitoba, Express Entry candidates must have eligible work experience in one of Manitoba’s in-demand occupations, among other requirements, and submit a separate Expression of Interest to the MPNP.

Skilled Worker Overseas

The MPNP’s Skilled Worker Overseas Category allows the MPNP to select and nominate approved foreign workers with skills required in Manitoba’s labor market.

Among other criteria, candidates must have an established connection to Manitoba such as close family or friends, previous education or work experience in the province or an invitation through one of the MPNP’s Strategic Recruitment Initiatives. They do not, however, need to be in Manitoba in order to qualify.

The 24 Skilled Worker Overseas candidates invited on November 7 had a minimum EOI score of 719.

Skilled Worker in Manitoba

Candidates invited through the Skilled Worker in Manitoba Category must be working in Manitoba and have a full-time, permanent job offer from their employer, among other criteria.

The lowest-ranked candidate invited through the Skilled Worker in Manitoba Category on November 7 had an EOI score of 560.

International Education Stream

Manitoba graduates with certain in-demand skills may be invited under the International Education Stream.

This stream includes three sub-categories: Career Employment Pathway, Graduate Internship Pathway, and the Student Entrepreneur Pathway.

The MPNP has now issued 6,911 invitations to candidates through its Skilled Worker in Manitoba, Skilled Worker Overseas and International Education immigration pathways so far this year.
