COVID-19 News: We want you to stay safe and help others to do the same as we come together

Cougar Immigration wants you to stay safe and help others to do the same as we come together to stop the spread of COVID‑19. We’re all feeling the gravity of the situation. Children are being kept home from school. Businesses are closing their doors. And Canadians are waking each morning wondering what the day will bring.

These are unsettling times and you may be facing some challenges related to the impact of COVID‑19.

You’ve placed your trust in us and we’re here to help.

COVID‑19 is a global health challenge and has placed our communities under significant strain. Some of the efforts we’re taking to help flatten the curve of the COVID‑19 outbreak will impact the way we serve you. We stand by our clients and hope to process the application as soon as possible however there may be a delay since IRCC is not operating at full capacity and has limited staff.

Here are some IRCC Policies you may want to know.

Canada’s immigration policies and procedures have undergone daily changes over the past week as Canada seeks to contain the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

One of Canada’s major measures has been to implement travel restrictions between March 18 and June 30, however, Canada is still exempting certain permanent and temporary residents from the restrictions so that they can enter the country.

Implications of travel restrictions on IRCC clients:

On March 16, 2020, the Prime Minister announced travel restriction measures that will restrict air travel to Canadians, permanent residents, and families of Canadians to protect Canada from the outbreak of COVID-19.

While these restrictions seek to stop non-essential travel, there are exceptions to ensure essential travel is permitted. The following text addresses common questions about the travel restrictions and other impacts COVID-19 is having on IRCC’s clients and operations.

Important points to note:

  • You can apply for both Express Entry and Permanent residence applications
  • Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) continue to hold Express Entry draws.
  • IRCC is still processing permanent residence applications.
  • IRCC is processing completed applications as per its normal procedures and providing individuals who are unable to submit completed applications with an additional 90 days if such individuals have experienced delays obtaining documents due to coronavirus-related disruptions.
  • IRCC will continue to accept and process new applications for temporary residence. However, you will not be able to travel to Canada until the travel restrictions have been lifted.
  • There may be delays in processing times due to service disruptions and restrictions.
  • If your course is being delivered online due to the coronavirus pandemic, this will not affect your eligibility for the PGWP Program, and you may still apply.
  • Canada relies on the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and other organizations to identify refugees that need to be resettled.
  • The UNHCR and International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced the temporary suspension of resettlement travel for refugees.
  • These organizations may make alternative arrangements for refugees in transit.
  • Canada continues to accept asylum claimants in Canada.
  • As of April 30, 2020, 9.00 AMThe right to permanent residence fee will be $825 for Principal Applicant and Spouse or Common-Law Partner of Principal Applicant is also $825. The dependant fee will change to $225.
