Quebec started 2022 with the lowest unemployment rates in years

Quebec’s labour market has bounced back after the pandemic, with 156,900 new workers. The number of unemployed persons also drastically dropped (- 94,900). According to Mia Homsy, Chief Executive Officer of the Institut du Quebec, the province started “2022 with one of the lowest unemployment rates in years and a record number of job vacancies.” Bilan 2021 de l’emploi au Québec : Transformations sectorielles et déficit de compétences en vue report revealed that Quebec’s aging population will negatively impact labour supply, especially the accommodation, food services, and retail industries.
