Quebec could welcome over 100,000 immigrants per year

Dismissing the claims made by Quebec Premier Francois Legault, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau insists that Quebec can easily welcome up to 112,000 immigrants per year. According to Trudeau, most of these immigrants could be French-speaking without difficulty. In stark contrast to Legault’s claims that it would be catastrophic for Quebec’s economy to receive above 50,000 immigrants this year, the public is showing clear support for higher immigration levels. In addition, Trudeau highlighted Quebec’s labour shortage and linked it to the underrepresentation of immigrants in the province, noting that businesses face immense difficulty filling job openings.
