Ottawa to prioritize temporary and permanent residence applications from Turkey and Syria

On March 18, 2023, the Government of Canada announced new immigration measures to support Turkish and Syrian temporary residents in Canada and abroad. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will process temporary and permanent residence and refugee resettlement applications from people affected by the devastating earthquakes. In addition, as of March 29, 2023, Turkish and Syrian nationals already in Canada could extend their stay free of charge. As of February 8, 2023, there were approximately 16,000 applications from Turkey and Syria, including 1,700 from the area impacted by the earthquakes.
