Ways to Immigrate to Canada from India in 2023

The Indian population in Canada has steadily grown and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. In fact, India was the largest of all immigration sources for new Canadian permanent residents in 2021. We’re breaking down the best ways to immigrate to Canada from India today.

Here are some possible ways to immigrate to Canada from India in 2023:

Federal Skilled Worker Program

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is a permanent residency program for qualified skilled workers with at least two years of work experience. Applications are open to individuals in Canada and abroad, as long as they have no connections to the country or an offer of employment.

In order to be eligible for this program, you must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • You must have at least one year of continuous full-time or equivalent paid work experience in the past 10 years in a skilled occupation classified under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) TEER category 0, 1, 2, or 3;
  • Candidates must have strong skills in English (CLB 7) or French (CLB 7), both verbal and written. So, if you speak one and can read another, then you’re great!
  • Canadian educational credential (certificate, diploma, or degree), or foreign credential and Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report.
  • All FSWP applicants must achieve a minimum of 67 points on IRCC’s six immigration selection factors.
  • Prove that you have enough funds for you and your family to settle in Canada.

Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs)

The Provincial Nominee Program is another major option for Indian immigration applicants.

Canada is a federal country with 10 provinces, 3 territories, and an immigration program called the Provincial Nominee Program. This allows each province to design an immigration pathway based on its needs.

There are now two new Canadian immigration programs that offer potential opportunities to skilled workers: the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and the Regional Economic Development Incentive Program (REDI).

Indian top talent looking to emigrate to Canada can apply through the PNP, with their eligibility gauged by a set of criteria. They might also choose to enter the Express Entry pool and be invited to apply through a nomination by a province. If they are nominated this way, they’ll receive 600 CRS points. This means they will most likely receive an invitation from the federal government, and thus more chances at receiving an ITA in a subsequent draw.

Family Sponsorship

If you have family members who are already Canadian citizens or permanent residents, they may be able to sponsor your immigration application. This is a great option if you have close ties to Canada and want to live closer to your family here.

Quebec Skilled Worker (QSW)

Quebec offers its own skilled worker immigration program – The Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSW). It’s an immigration program operated by the province of Quebec for skilled workers who are able to make lasting contributions to Quebec’s economy as members of the workforce.

Like Express Entry, the candidates are ranked and then invited to apply.

Work Permit

As an Indian national, you have the potential to qualify for a Canadian work permit. Usually, a job offer will be necessary to get a permit. But there is one major exception: with intra-company transfers.

If your employer is part of a multinational company with offices in Canada, you may be eligible for an office transfer to Canada, without too much hassle!

Study Permit

Students in India are increasingly choosing to study in Canada over the US. One of the reasons many Indian students choose to study in Canada is because they have many opportunities to work while they’re there, and after they graduate. Graduates from Canadian schools can easily get a postgraduation work permit, which allows them to work anywhere in Canada and gain valuable work experience.

Start-up Visa Program

This program is designed for immigrants who have innovative business ideas and want to start their own companies in Canada. To be eligible, you must first get a letter of support from a designated Canadian organization. If your application is successful, you can immigrate to Canada.
