Canadian immigration officials face increased numbers of study permit applications

The number of active study permits in Canada has now surpassed pre-pandemic levels, with application volumes increasing even faster. This year’s surge in application volumes has resulted in a processing backlog, as well as lengthy processing times for study permit files. The report of the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration has made several sweeping recommendations for Canada’s immigration policy, including ones for more government supervision of education agents and greater transparency in study permit processing at the hands of the country’s immigration ministry.
