Canada’s immigration backlog sits at a whopping 2.6 million people

On October 14, 2022, the Government of Canada published new statistics regarding the immigration backlog. According to the latest update, as of September 30, 2022, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) had 2.6 million applications in the inventory. There were 1.11 million applications within service standards and 1.49 million in the backlog. 46% of temporary residence applications, 47% of permanent resident applications, and 69% of citizenship applications were processed within service standards. The service standard is the metric IRCC uses to measure how long it takes, on average, to process an application for a given immigration program.
