Canada improved requirements for healthcare workers

On September 23, 2022, the Government of Canada announced a new pathway for healthcare workers who faced barriers in accessing permanent residence under the Express Entry system. Foreign-born physicians who are employed under a fee-for-service model with public health authorities will no longer have to meet current requirements. Instead, this change recognizes the unique employment model used in Canada’s healthcare system and provides access to Canada’s economic permanent residence programs. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is trying to boost the employment of foreign people in Canada by enhancing its immigration system so that prospective immigrants who are already here can stay and work.
