Are You Eligible for Express Entry as a Federal Skilled Worker (FSWP)?

Many immigrants put a lot of effort into obtaining all the documents necessary for Canadian immigration. People from all corners of the globe are drawn to the peace and prosperity enjoyed by Canada’s residents. The Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) offers several programs that allow individuals of diverse backgrounds to make their dream of emigrating to Canada come true. Specifically, the Express Entry system is frequently employed to invite skilled workers into the country. Today we will be discussing one category in particular: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP). We will cover what is needed to gain access and determine if a candidate is eligible for this program, as well as those known as Federal Skilled Trades and Canadian Experience Class.

How is the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) different from Canada Express Entry?

The Federal Skilled Worker Class is a Canadian program designed to offer immigrants the opportunity to secure good employment in the nation’s thriving job market. This program is not only beneficial for individuals with skills, but it also allows them to bring their spouses and dependent children. When creating an Express Entry profile, all information must be entered accurately in order to determine an applicant’s eligibility for the Federal Skilled Worker program or other programs depending on the profile details. Furthermore, some categories of Express Entry have additional requirements; the Federal Skilled Worker category requires sufficient funds for settlement while Canadian Experience Class does not. Therefore, applicants must ensure their profiles meet the prerequisites of one of Canada Express Entry’s categories. Consider this list of requirements if you’re looking specifically at the Federal Skilled Worker option.

Everything You Should Know About the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)

In order to be eligible for the Federal Skilled Worker Program, you must score at least 67/100 points. There are six main criteria that will be taken into account: age, education, work experience, employment in Canada, language skills, and adaptability points. Some of these may be out of your control; however, there is still an area where you can improve: language abilities. You can receive up to 28 points in this category by verifying that you possess a certain level of proficiency in either French or English (or both). The Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) and Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC) are used to assess your abilities in reading, writing, speaking, and listening in either language.

Education can help you gain up to 25 points in the Canada Express Entry system. As a foreign student, you’ll need to complete an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for immigration purposes. Getting a higher education level will yield maximum points, so if you are pursuing immigration, don’t forget this crucial step. Work experience is also important when it comes to boosting your chances; one year of work experience in the relevant field grants 9 points, whereas 6 years or more bestows 15 points. Having an employment offer in Canada is a big plus and could add 10 points to your total score but is often difficult to secure. Finally, adaptability can offer you 10 extra points – these are based on language proficiency and the educational achievements of your spouse if they choose to immigrate with you. Therefore, being married can be very beneficial within the Canada Express Entry system.
